A caravan trailer that folds down offers spacious fun while travelling, but it is also relatively small and easy to store when you are at home. Getting ready to fold up your caravan trailer and store it? Here are some tips to keep in mind:

1. Do not store wet caravan trailers.

If there is any moisture inside your caravan trailer, do not fold it down and then push it into storage. The trapped wetness will turn to mold or mildew, making your caravan smelly and potentially damaging its interior. Make sure that the interior is fully dry before you put it into storage, and also remember to move small wet things like old cleaning rags.

If there is moisture on the canopy, make sure that is dry before you fold it as well. Otherwise, moisture may get caught in the folds of the caravan's top.

2. Do not use chemicals on the canopy.

If the canopy of your caravan trailer is wet, you may want to dry it off, and you can with an absorbent towel. However, if you decide to clean the canopy, you should avoid harsh chemicals. Unfortunately, they may break down the weather-resistant coating that is on the canopy. In most cases, you can use cleaning chemicals on the hard surfaces of your trailer without issue.

3. Remove the leisure battery.

Some popup campers have leisure batteries, and unfortunately, if you do not use a battery for several months, it may discharge. To prevent this, disconnect the battery to ensure that nothing draws power from it. If possible, store the leisure battery inside, and charge it as needed so it doesn't go flat.

4. Remove all snacks.

To make sure that you don't inadvertently attract mice or other little creatures to your camper, make sure that you empty all of the food out of it. Remove food from your cupboards and fridge, but also vacuum thoroughly to make sure that there are no errant crumbs in your camper.

5. Protect your tires

In addition to the inside, outside and battery of your camper trailer, you also need to protect your tyres. If you are storing your camper outside, cover the tyres so that the sun's rays do not break down the rubber. Also, sitting on one part of the tyre can cause that spot to wear unnaturally -- to prevent that, move your camper trailer a few centimetres once in awhile to rotate the part of the tyre that is touching the ground.
